Who do you say I AM?

under construction

Messiah will die

(Dan 9:26)  "Then after the sixty-two weeks the Messiah will be cut off and have nothing, .....
The Hebrew word karath H3772 not only means to perish but is a covenant word giving the sense of establishing a covenant.  This is the same word God uses when make a covenant with Abram.

(Gen 15:18)  On that dayH3117 the LORDH3068 madeH3772  a covenantH1285 with AbramH87, sayingH559, "R1To your N1descendantsH2233 I have givenH5414 thisH2088 landH776, From R2the riverH5104 of EgyptH4714 as farH5704 as the greatH1419 riverH5104, the riverH5104 EuphratesH6578:

What covenant?  The New Covenant described in Jeremiah and Hebrews.

(Jer 31:31)  "Behold, days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah,

(Heb 8:7)  For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion sought for a second.

This prophecy in Daniel gives the exact timetable for when Messiah (Mashiyach) will arrive and perish.   Notice the time phrases in these verses.

(Dan 9:25)  "So you are to know and discern that from the issuing of a decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; it will be built again, with plaza and moat, even in times of distress.

(Dan 9:26)  "Then after the sixty-two weeks the Messiah will be cut off and have nothing, and the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. A
nd its end will come with a flood; even to the end there will be war; desolations are determined.
The word for weeks literally means sevens and refers to seven year period in this context

Notice how word is used in (Gen 29:27)  "CompleteH4390 the weekH7620 of thisH2088 oneH2088, and we will giveH5414 you the otherH2088 alsoH1571 for the serviceH5656 whichH834 R1you shall serveH5647 with me for anotherH312 sevenH7651 yearsH8141."

So we see from the issuing of the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah arrives and is cut off will be 7 sevens and 62 sevens or 69 sevens. In other words 69 x 7 or 483 years.   So 483 years from the issuing of this decree until Messiah. Understanding the Hebrew calender is based on a lunar calender of 360 days/year we can determine the number of days.
So 483 x360 is 173880 days.
So how many actual years is this?  A solar year is actually 365.2421199 days.
173880 days divided by 365.242199 is approx 476 years.
So Scripture states that from the issuing of the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem will be 476 years.

So when was this decree issued?  It was in the 20th year of Artaxerxes in the month of Nisan.  This is the same month Passover takes place .  The exact time Jesus is crucified
.(Neh 2:1)  And it came about in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, that wine was before him, and I took up the wine and gave it to the king. Now I had not been sad in his presence.

(Neh 2:7)  And I said to the king, "If it please the king, let letters be given me for the governors of the provinces beyond the River, that they may allow me to pass through until I come to Judah,

(Neh 2:8)  and a letter to Asaph the keeper of the king's forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the fortress which is by the temple, for the wall of the city and for the house to which I will go." And the king granted them to me because the good hand of my God was on me.

A Goggle search on Artaxerxes reveals he rein began around 465/464 BC which would put his 20th year around 445/444 BC.   -445/444 + 476 = 31/32 Remember there is no 0 year which would put this at the 32/33 year of Jesus life.   Jesus started his ministry right before his 30th year.

(Luk 3:23)  When He began His ministry, Jesus Himself was about thirty years of age, being, as was supposed, the son of Joseph, the son of Eli,

His ministry lasted three and half years ending at Passover in the month of Nisan.  Fulfilling the role of the Passover lamb.  Fulfilling this prophecy written in God's word nearly 538 years earlier by the prophet Daniel.
The time has already passed.  Who else was around during this time that fulfilled this?  The answer is only JESUS.  a descendant of David through his mother Mary.  The authority to rule through his adoptive father Joseph also a descendant of David.

Messiah will be rejected

(Psa 89:38) But You have cast off and rejected, You have been full of wrath against Your anointed. (mashiyach or messiah)

(Psa 89:39) You have spurned the covenant of Your servant; You have profaned his crown in the dust.

 (Gen 22:7)

Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, "My father!" And he said, "Here I am, my son." And he said, "Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?"

(Gen 22:8) Abraham said, "God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son." So the two of them walked on together.

We see a picture developing of a sacrificial substitution

(Gen 22:9) Then they came to the place of which God had told him; and Abraham built the altar there and arranged the wood, and bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood.

(Gen 22:10) Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.

(Gen 22:11) But the angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, "Abraham, Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."

(Gen 22:12) He said, "Do not stretch out your hand against the lad, and do nothing to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me."

(Joh 3:16) "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

God is providing us with a picture of the events that are about to unfold in the future .  God himself will provide the sacrifice, His Son and only Son as the Passover lamb freeing his people from bondage once and for all.
God will allow his son to be sacrificed on this exact spot on Mount Moriah several thousand years in the future

(Gen 22:2)

He said, "Take now your son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you."

(2Ch 3:1) Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the LORD had appeared to his father David, at the place that David had prepared on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

Does God have a son?

It is clear that God is One.  Yet we see God exist as Father, Son and Spirit.

(Isa 43:10) "You are My witnesses," declares the LORD, "And My servant whom I have chosen, So that you may know and believe Me And understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, And there will be none after Me.

God is declaring He is the servant and the one and only God.

(Isa 45:15) Truly, You are a God who hides Himself, O God of Israel, Savior!

(1Jn 4:14) We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.

(1Jn 4:15) Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.

(Isa 45:21) "Declare and set forth your case; Indeed, let them consult together. Who has announced this from of old? Who has long since declared it? Is it not I, the LORD? And there is no other God besides Me, A righteous God and a Savior; There is none except Me.

Although hidden to some God has announced this from the beginning

(Psa 2:7) "I will surely tell of the decree of the LORD: He said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.

(Pro 30:3) Neither have I learned wisdom, Nor do I have the knowledge of the Holy One.

(Pro 30:4) Who has ascended into heaven and descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has wrapped the waters in His garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name or His son's name? Surely you know!

Surely you Know.  His name is Jesus.  Y'shua in Hebrew which means salvation.  God is a righteous God and Savior!

(Psa 2:1) Why are the nations in an uproar And the peoples devising a vain thing?

(Psa 2:2) The kings of the earth take their stand And the rulers take counsel together Against the LORD and against His Anointed (Messiah or in Hebrew Mashiyach), saying,

(Psa 2:3) "Let us tear their fetters apart And cast away their cords from us!"

(Psa 2:4) He who sits in the heavens laughs, The Lord scoffs at them.

(Psa 2:5) Then He will speak to them in His anger And terrify them in His fury, saying,

(Psa 2:6) "But as for Me, I have installed My King Upon Zion, My holy mountain."

(Psa 2:7) "I will surely tell of the decree of the LORD: He said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.

(Luk 1:31) "And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.

(Luk 1:32) "He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David;

(Luk 1:33) and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end."

(Isa 11:10)

Then in that day The nations (Gentiles or Goy in Hebrew will resort to the root of Jesse, Who will stand as a signal for the peoples; And His resting place will be glorious.

(Psa 80:15) Even the shoot which Your right hand has planted, And on the son whom You have strengthened for Yourself.

(Psa 80:16) It is burned with fire, it is cut down; They perish at the rebuke of Your countenance.

(Psa 80:17) Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand, Upon the son of man whom You made strong for Yourself.

(Dan 7:13) "I kept looking in the night visions, And behold, with the clouds of heaven One like a Son of man was coming, And He came up to the Ancient of Days And was presented before Him.

(Dan 7:14) "And to Him was given dominion, Glory and a kingdom, That all the peoples, nations and men of every language Might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion Which will not pass away; And His kingdom is one Which will not be destroyed.

Who is the servant and what is his purpose?

(Isa 53:5) But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.

(Isa 53:6) All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him.

(Isa 53:7) He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He did not open His mouth; Like a lamb that is led to slaughter, And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, So He did not open His mouth.

(Isa 53:11) As a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it and be satisfied; By His knowledge the Righteous One, My Servant, will justify the many, As He will bear their iniquities.

(Isa 53:12) Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great, And He will divide the booty with the strong; Because He poured out Himself to death, And was numbered with the transgressors; Yet He Himself bore the sin of many, And interceded for the transgressors.

Is the servant Israel?

(Isa 49:3) He saidH559 to Me, "R1You are My ServantH5650, IsraelH3478, R2In WhomH834 I will N1showH6286 My gloryH6286."

Before jumping to conclusions we need to understand that unlike our culture where a name identifies an individual; in the Hebraic culture in which this was written a name first and foremost identifies the character of the individual.  Names can and do change throughout peoples lives as their character changes. Examples are Abram to Abraham , Sarai to Sarah, Jacob to Israel as well as in New Testament Saul to Paul and Simon to Cephas or Peter

Strong's Concordance defines Israel H3478 as meaning "he will rule as God"

Is the servant one that rules as God because he is God or is Israel the people or nation? The context will show us.

(Isa 49:5) And now says the LORD, who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant, To bring Jacob back to Him, so that Israel might be gathered to Him (For I am honored in the sight of the LORD, And My God is My strength),

If the servant is the Nation or people of Israel this is very strange that God formed him, Israel, from the womb to bring back Jacob or Israel back to him so that Israel might be gathered to him.

(Isa 49:6) He says, "It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant To raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also make You a light of the nations So that My salvation may reach to the end of the earth."

Israel raising up Israel?

(Isa 49:1) Listen to Me, O islands, And pay attention, you peoples from afar. The LORD called Me from the womb; From the body of My mother He named Me.

The nation or people of Israel called from and named from womb? Who is the mother of Israel?

Once you realize who this truly is these verses start making sense.

(Luk 1:30) The angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God.

(Luk 1:31)

"And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.

(Isa 49:2) He has made My mouth like a sharp sword, In the shadow of His hand He has concealed Me; And He has also made Me a select arrow, He has hidden Me in His quiver

We see he will be concealed. God himself is concealed

(Isa 45:15) Truly, You are a God who hides Himself, O God of Israel, Savior!

In scripture an arrow in quiver indicates children in this case the Son of God

(Psa 127:4) Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one's youth.

(Psa 127:5) How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; They will not be ashamed When they speak with their enemies in the gate.

(Isa 49:6) He says, "It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant To raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also make You a light of the nations So that My salvation may reach to the end of the earth."

This is the same one spoken of in

(Isa 9:1) But there will be no more gloom for her who was in anguish; in earlier times He treated the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali with contempt, but later on He shall make it glorious, by the way of the sea, on the other side of Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles.

(Isa 9:2) The people who walk in darkness Will see a great light; Those who live in a dark land, The light will shine on them.

It is clear from

(Isa 9:6) For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

this person will be born therefore human . He will also be called mighty God because this is the son of God.  God himself who saves just as prophecy foretold.

Is suffering servant of Isaiah 53 Israel and does Israel meet God’s requirement for Guilt offering?

(Isa 53:10)  But the LORD was pleased To crush Him, putting Him to grief; If He would render Himself as a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, And the good pleasure of the LORD will prosper in His hand.

(Lev 6:6)  "Then he shall bring to the priest his guilt offering to the LORD, a ram without defect from the flock, according to your valuation, for a guilt offering,

Is Israel without sin, without blemish?
Does God ever allow an imperfect sacrifice?
What was Israel doing when Isaiah was written?
He who rules as God "Israel" the messiah Jesus is without sin and is worthy to be guilt offering.

Do we see other areas where the Messiah is pierced?

Psalm 22 begins " My God ,my God , why have you forsaken me?"

(Psa 22:1) For the choir director; upon Aijeleth Hashshahar. A Psalm of David. My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Far from my deliverance are the words of my groaning.

Jesus crys this out on the cross bringing the people back to this psalm at the very moment that the Passover lambs were being sacrificed in the temple as he bears the iniquity of the people upon himself.

(Mar 15:34) At the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, "ELOI, ELOI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?" which is translated, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?"

Why would Jesus want to draw attention back to this Psalm?

(Psa 22:16) For dogs have surrounded me; A band of evildoers has encompassed me; They pierced my hands and my feet.

(Psa 22:17) I can count all my bones. They look, they stare at me;

(Psa 22:18) They divide my garments among them, And for my clothing they cast lots.

(Luk 23:34) But Jesus was saying, "Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing." And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves.

If Jesus was pierced for our transgressions and He is God, do we see other areas where God is pierced?

(Zec 12:10) "I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn.

(Zec 12:11) "In that day there will be great mourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the plain of Megiddo.

Notice God is speaking and He says "They will look on Me whom they have pierced and will mourn for Him as one mourns for a only son

This will be an unbearable grief
