-This is an educational site that looks at the Sign of Jonah, three days and three nights, from a biblical perspective.  Traditions are set aside and scripture is used as our plumb line as we observe Jesus fulfilling the role of the Passover lamb and fulfilling the Sign of Jonah exactly-

FACT: Jesus states he will be in the grave THREE DAYS and THREE NIGHTS.

(Mat 12:40)

for just as Jonah was THREE DAYS and THREE NIGHTS in the belly of the sea monster, so will the Son of Man be THREE DAYS and THREE NIGHTS in the heart of the earth. NASB

FACT:  Friday afternoon to Sunday morning is NOT 3 days and 3 nights but only 2 days and 2 nights.

MYTH:  The Bible states Jesus died on Friday.     The Bible does NOT say what day of the week he died, but if it did, the days of the week in Scripture would be numbered i.e. 1st thru 7th.  Our days of the week are named after Nordic gods and goddesses.  Thursday from the Nordic god of thunder Thor or Thor's day.  Friday from the goddess Fria.

FACT: The Sabbath was approaching.   However, Friday evening is not the only day that is a Sabbath.  There are Sabbaths that occur during the high days or Festivals and can occur on any day of the week.  It was not the normal Friday evening Sabbath that was approaching but the high Sabbath of the Festival of Unleavened Bread. There were 2 Sabbaths that week.

(Joh 19:31) The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. NASB

Notice John calls this Sabbath a high day and distinguishes it from other Sabbaths.
